The Tracey’s have been involved with the South African Diamond industry for four generations. It started with Robert Henry Tracey, who landed in South Africa in the mid 1890’s. This was 20 years after South Africa’s first big ‘Diamond Rush’ which started with the discovery of the famous 21.25 carat Eureka diamond.

In 1926 Robert Henry Tracey headed for Bakerville near Lichtenburg to join the biggest gathering of diggers in history. In the 1920’s, Lichtenburg was the richest public diggings in the world and people would jokingly remark that; “At Lichtenburg you do not need a shovel and sieve to dig. No man, you just pull a shrub from the soil, and the diamonds will hang from its roots!”

Robert’s son, George Arnold, became an apprentice diamond polisher when he was 16 years old and in 1943 an allocation was granted to him by the Central Selling Organisation – De Beers. It was then that the Tracey’s started perfecting the art of cutting and polishing fine diamonds.

George was joined by his sons, Robert George and Evan James in 1966. They continued with the allocation until 1981, after which each brother went his separate way. Evan decided to continue with the family business.

Evan Tracey still runs the business from their shop in Franschhoek with his son Matthew Henry. The family no longer purchases diamonds in their rough state to be cut and polished, but in keeping with their long tradition and reputation, they now supply the best value diamonds, cut and polished to the highest standards, in the world.

The Sunday Telegraph, a respected UK newspaper, reported that a diamond bought at Tracey’s Diamonds for £2,450 will sell in Cape Town for a staggering £4,465 and in Londen for more than £3,500. Not only will buying a diamond from Tracey’s Diamonds save you a small fortune, you will also be guaranteed that the stone you are buying is a South African diamond with an internationally recognised certificate. Tracey’s Diamonds also ensures all diamonds bought at their store are perfectly cut and polished to the highest international standards. If you want to purchase diamond jewelry in South Africa there is really no point in going anywhere else than Tracey’s Diamonds Franschhoek.

When it comes to diamonds brilliance is only achieved with time and at Tracey’s Diamonds customers can benefit from four generations of diamond service and excellence.
